S.O.A.P.S.Tone Analysis of Poem

S- the poem is about our friendship and even though we have a lot of differences, we are still best friends.

O-the occasion in the poem is Lindsay, the author and my best friend, is comparing and contrasting how different we are.

A- the intended audience is me.

P- a poem saying how different we are but that we are still best friends.

S- the speaker is also the author, Lindsay Little.

Tone- the tone is funny, and friendly.

Character Evaluation Essay

If you could travel back in time, 600,002,055 years to shoot a tyrannosurus rex, would you? For Eckels, the main character in “A Sound of Thunder”, he had the opportunity to, and he took it. In “A Sound of Thunder”, Time Safari Inc. is the first to take hunters to the past in a time machine to hunt dinosaurs. Eckels, along with two leaders and two other hunters, goes back in time. At first, his arrogance gets the best of him. As the story progresses, his cowardliness and anxiety start showing. This character is so important because he doesn’t follow the rules and alters the future by stepping on a butterfly.

One of Eckels’ many traits is his arrogance. In the beginning of the story, he says that “Every hunter that ever lived would envy us today.”(pg. 502) He also doesn’t care about killinga mouse and possibly ruining or changing the future. In the book, he says,”They are dead, so what?”(pg.503) This shows that he doesn’t care who or what isaffected by his actions. This is so important to the story because if he cared more about the rules and other people, he might not have altered the future.

Another trait that defines Eckels is that he is cowardly. When they reached their destination, he got very scared. When it was time to kill the t-rex, he lost it. He wandered off the path and stepped on a butterfly. They do not realize what he has done until they get back and the future is altered. Eckels acts tough on the inside, but when it comes down to it, he really isn’t.

His third major trait is that he is very anxious. Beforethey get there, Eckels is excited about killing a t-rex, but when he gets there, he is very worried that he might not make it out alive. He chikens out and goes into a trance-like state, and steps off the path.

In conclusion, if Eckels didn’t posess any os these traits, there would be no story. HIs cowardliness, his arrogance, and his anxiety caused him to step off the path and ruin the future as they knew it.
